WHAT IS POLYMER.?

Polymer is a substance formed by a linkage of two or more simple unsaturated molecule called monomers, to form a single heavier molecule having same elements in same proportions as the original monomers. A polymer made from two or more dissimilar molecules (monomers) is a co-polymer.

Polymers are divided in two categories, one Thermoplastics & other Thermosets. Thermoplastics melt or soften when heated and thus can be recycled. Where as the Thermosets do not melt but decomposes at high temperature.

Styrene Butadine Rubber (SBR) is formed by the polymerisation of Styrene (C8 H8).

The Polymer is a versatile material having following key properties:

High strength to weight ratio.
Impermeability
High strength, in tension / compression / flexure / impact. High chemical resistance.
Low water absorption.
Rapid strength gain.
Excellent bond with most of the material.

Ease of working.
Many other special properties in certain types.

They can be used in their original form or as a composite in combination with other reinforcement. The composites can be tailor-made to get the required properties such as color, transparency, strength etc.
